Stewarding the Word
Here are a few paragraphs out of "The Bride and The Sword" I felt I should share again. Enjoy and may God bless! The word of God is living and active and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The word should be used in and through us by the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s perfect will. As with all gifts from God, we must rightly steward what He gives us or reveals to us. When the word is shared, it should be shared in a way God wants it shared, reflecting His love, with the right amount of salt or boldness or zeal as the situation calls for to accomplish God’s will. His word serves many purposes but always accomplishes what He sends it forth to accomplish in each situation. We must first allow His word to have its perfect effect on ourselves, and as He frees us with His word (His truth), then we experience spiritual growth and understanding as Holy Spirit reveals it, and then we have gained a testimony of the transforming power of His word and can rightly steward what’s been revealed to us. When we use His word with others, it should be used in a way that edifies, bringing understanding to the hearer, leading them in the right direction in the truth of God’s will, and done so in a loving and caring manner, all the while praying that Holy Spirit brings them understanding as it pertains to their situation. The word should be used to build them up as Christians and encourage them and bring them peace.
The word of God is also used to reveal God’s truth about what is stored up in our own hearts. You shouldn’t just read the Bible once through and be done with it. You should read and meditate, desiring to see what Holy Spirit reveals next! Think of it this way: just as a shower washes you clean each morning, or evening, of all the dirt, sweat, and body odors, so the word of God washes you clean spiritually on the inside of all the wrongful thinking, bad decisions, judgments made, and things we may have held onto that should be forgiven. When you come into His presence in prayer and focus or meditate on His word each day, you are in a sense taking a spiritual bath. Holy Spirit brings revelation and conviction to shake things loose and bring all things into the light and into submission to God. He brings to mind unforgiveness, wrong thoughts, displeasing decisions that don’t line up with God’s word or will and we agree with Him and surrender them to Him and He washes us clean. So are you a sweet-smelling aroma to Him, or are you developing a stinky attitude? There is a test you can do to see if your body is clean. You lift your arm up and smell. The test you do to see if your heart and mind are clean is to listen to the words that are coming out of your mouth. If they don’t line up with God’s word to bear the fruits of the Spirit, then you’re starting to stink on the inside, and you need some spa time with God. Get into the spiritual sauna, meaning spend a day with God and His word and let Him filter out impurities that you’ve tried to hide down deep in your heart instead of dealing with them. As you renew your mind with His word and ways and Holy Spirit brings understanding of who you are in Christ, you will start transforming into His image. As you surrender all to Jesus and follow His ways in obedience and submission to Holy Spirit’s leading, you will truly understand what freedom is, what righteousness is, and how victorious we truly are. When you start seeing the world as He sees it and walking in His will for you and thinking the way He thinks, you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. When you submerse yourself in His truth, this world will have no more hold or sway or control of you. People will no longer have the power to push your buttons or make you angry or bring you down with their hurtful or degrading words. Don’t you want to be that free? Then ask yourself who you are surrendered to. Who controls you? Who are you “believing in,” or who do you have faith in?
We have to surrender all to the One who can clean us up and set us free and heal us. We have to come to an understanding of who we really are, totally sold-out and surrendered to Jesus equals untouchable in the spiritual realm. Jesus said, “It is finished!” We surrender to Him, and His blood washes us clean. We are forgiven. He chooses to remember it no more, so why should we? Do you believe the blood He spilled for you was enough? If so, then stop living in the past, stop letting past mistakes imprison you in walls of shame, and stop blaming others for things they did to you. You should let the blood of the Lamb wash you clean, set you free, and heal your scars. You are a new creation. You have died to your old self. When the enemy comes at you with whispers about the past, he has no authority anymore because the blood of the Lamb has made you righteous in the eyes of God. You don’t even have to rebuke him, just start thanking God for everything the blood of Jesus accomplished. Jesus said, “It is written,” and quoted the word of God. And you can do the same, and the devil will flee because he can’t find any more leverage to hold you back. **For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience if fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3–6
The word of God can be used as a sword to defeat the enemy. But understand that the enemy is not each other. Jesus said to love God and love each other, and He didn’t specify saved or unsaved. We are to love people to Him and pray for His perfect will to be done in their lives. This world and everything in it will be gone one day, but people are eternal. We are His treasure. Our eternal destination is of the highest importance (heaven or hell) to Father God. We should be fighting for each other, not against each other, and love is the secret weapon. God is love. If you don’t believe me, try saying, “I love you” to someone who’s verbally attacking you and watch their reaction. They will be totally thrown off track and flabbergasted (which is a country term for confused). The enemy has no clue about how to fight the love of God because the love of God is not in him. He is totally defenseless against nonjudgmental agape love. Jesus taught about love again and again and set it as a new commandment for a reason. It’s a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare that the enemy has no defense against. With this in mind, we really need to suit up and fill up with His love to be armed for every battle. The word of God is a weapon against our true enemy, satan, demons, unclean spirits, and everything that sets itself up against God. As we approach another person, we are approaching one of God’s children. He created us, and He still longs for the lost or wayward sons and daughters to return to Him. The enemy’s mission is to infiltrate our mind and our thoughts with lies to bring division, disputes, hurt, and hopelessness, in the hopes of bringing our total destruction. If we are to be ambassadors of Christ, we are to be properly armed with God’s word and equipped to use it in the right way, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, by understanding the goal, which is to bring reconciliation with our Father and build His kingdom.
The word is not to be forced on people, because this approach usually pushes them away. It’s better to plant seeds in their thoughts with the word, so then Holy Spirit can bring revelation, and God brings the increase (partnering with God). We are to walk in love as Jesus taught us, and people will be drawn to the love and light of Jesus in us. We must remain aware of the unseen battle for souls. We must walk in the world but not be of the world. We need to see people as the children of God that we are fighting for. It is the enemy (satan) who is trying to block them from salvation and freedom, and it’s satan’s goal to totally destroy their lives. So knowing through your revelation in the word of God, that anger and outbursts of wrath, confusion, and dissentions are not of God, but of the enemy. When you are approached in this manner, understand that it may not be the person coming at you, but the enemy behind the person who’s coming at you. We are not to cut or attempt to destroy people with God’s word. We should stand and speak the word of truth, in love, with the fruits of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There again, you will probably get a look of confusion from the person attacking, because they have a lack of knowledge of God’s word, but the enemy behind the attack will flee when they mash their nose against the armor of God you are equipped with. **And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Revelation 12:11 **Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7
Even if it appears in the flesh that we lost an argument or were pushed back in a different direction, or different outcome than we imagined, we still stand in faith because seeds were planted, and as a good farmer, we wait to see the increase that God brings forth. For all things are turned for God’s good and no weapon formed against us shall prosper.
